Have you ever wondered why people praise you for something that you don't consider exceptional? Are you even sometimes irritated by positive feedback on your work because it feels so undeserved?
I feel the same way. Since my career change about two years ago, I have celebrated numerous successes. But despite all the praise and encouragement for what I do, a question mark often remains: What do others see in me that I don't see myself? Why is there such a big difference between how I perceive myself and how the people around me perceive me?
An example: When I got my ISTQB Foundation Level exam, it was seen by others as impressive, while I just saw it as my duty.
To make this even more tangible, we will do a short interactive exercise where you get to experience firsthand how others might see you differently than you expect.
Everyone of you has received feedback in the past, and we will reflect together on why self-perception and the perception of others often diverge, and how you can shape your view of yourself in a more realistic way.
I will introduce some techniques such as the Johari Window, Feedback Mirror etc.
In this talk, I will like to take you on a journey from moments of total despair, to the realization that it is possible to see yourself through the eyes of others and accept compliments.
This is not another Imposter Syndrome talk!
It´s not about questioning your own competences, but about how you can learn to better process, accept and appreciate positive feedback.
