Demo is a powerful collaboration instrument - learn how to maximize its benefits!
Room F3 - Track 3: Talks
Testers, Developers, Product Owner, Manager, etc
Public speaking is always a present, ongoing topic. Some people seem almost addicted to it, as they are constantly enjoying being under the spotlight. On the other hand, there are people who are absolutely terrified of it, who will imagine most creative excuses in order to avoid it.
So, what is unique about software testers?
Testers practice their public speaking skills constantly, even when they are not aware of it. It happens each time we explain a bug to fellow developers, each time we are providing a feedback related to the requirements, each time we advocate for testability, each time during knowledge sharing sessions, etc. And, very important, each time when we do a demo!
In my working environment testers are go to people to conduct a demo. It is not a rule, however in most cases testers are the people delivering them. In my opinion, a great demo makes the whole team tightly connected. It presents a great opportunity for all the present individuals to inspire creative thinking and spark the feedback. Furthermore, it is another opportunity for customers to learn about the new features, for developers to gather deeper knowledge about the functionalities they didn’t work with, for testers to present the progress in the previous period.
And creating a great demo is a lot of work! Join me in this session to learn techniques how to make time boxed, well structured demos, targeting the right audience. How to pace them well with attention to the tone and language we use, how to inspire people, think about what they see and leave them room to ask the right questions. Each demo is a unique opportunity - do not miss it!
