Generative AI is transforming the nature of work for developers, testers, and managers alike. It might mean a complete reimagining of our work and careers, or precarious employment, or none. The impacts of LLMs could have potentially huge outcomes throughout society.
At the same time, the world doesn't feel as safe or stable as we once might have believed. Wars and climate change impact our economies and environment, perhaps even threaten our long-term survival.
The future has always been uncertain, but now that seems even more obvious. Margaret Heffernan argues in Embracing Uncertainty that uncertainty is a prerequisite for creativity. That’s an exciting idea, but it doesn’t make living with uncertainty less stressful.
Discomfort with uncertainty is natural and human. We could pretend the future is deterministic: grasp at too-easy answers and deny risks. Or we can nurture our inner resilience: recognize and embrace uncertainty in our lives and work, and learn to thrive on it.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll work together through group exercises and debriefs to uncover ways to do that, tackling questions like:
- How can we deal positively with the issues that uncertainty poses in our work and careers?
- What can we do to grow our tolerance for uncertainty and learn to embrace it creatively?
There are no prerequisites for this workshop and no equipment requirements. Just bring your brain and come prepared to jump in!
