Key-Learnings

  • Apply core Kanban principles, to manage and improve a real-world workflow.
  • Construct a physical wooden toy or game from scratch using specialized woodworking tools and machinery.
  • Relate agile workflow methodologies to hands-on manufacturing to experience firsthand how interdisciplinary skills drive successful delivery.

Want to learn about Kanban outside the usual (aka boring!) meeting/ training room setting? Want to learn it without using the usual (aka booooring!) simulation games and what not?!
Want to learn new non-IT skills?

Worry not, Søren & Christian have you covered: In this not-vanilla tutorial we will do both: Learning about and applying Kanban while building wooden toys/ games/ $things using all those cool machines and tools (no, not software!) you always wanted to get your hands on!

What will that look like? You decide on a toy, eg “Connect Four”, then plan the work to be done and break it down. Following Kanban, we will

  • visualise the work/ process
  • learn about flow metrics and how they can help to improve our collaboration
  • experiment with different WIP (work in progress) limits and see how that influences the cycle time, flow & productivity
  • actively manage our items in the workflow
  • improving the workflow

When all your tasks have ended up in Done, You will leave with a cool toy/game/$thing for your office, and loads of practical experiences about how Kanban works (and how to use a jig saw & other tools).
