Key-Learning

  • Facts and figures behind mental health.
  • How to spot signs of mental health issues.
  • What are the triggers that can bring on these issues.
  • What you can do to help yourself.
  • What you can do to help your friends, colleagues, and staff.

In this talk we will be discussing men’s mental health, mental health in general, and the need to understand these issues.

We will talk about why men don’t talk about mental health issues and the harm this causes. We will look at the stats regarding work days lost to mental health each year, the number of people it effects, and the wider problems it can cause.

We will also look at the differences between stress, anxiety and depression, and how they are linked.

We will also look at what we can do to help – whether that’s to help our colleagues, our friends, our staff, or to help ourselves. We’ll spend some time looking at causes, triggers, coping mechanisms, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other help that is available to us.

I’ll also be interspersing the facts and stats with my own personal story (and similar stories from friends and colleagues) – talking about my struggles with stress and depression, why it’s hard for me to discuss it – even with friends and family – and what I need from the people around me.
