With the advent of automation we can see more and more teams ditching their test specialists in favour of engineers writing tests. It appears that organisations and engineers believe that testing is a solved problem… but is it?
In this talk I’ll talk through a more holistic view of quality, based around Nicola Sedgwick’s quality radar. This will help us to show that the “solved problem” is focusing on only one type of testing (scripted) and that there are other areas that are still unknowns (exploratory, collaboration and observability).
I’ll also discuss how I’ve rolled out and used a quality radar to show engineering teams how the testing they do is only part of the story. This allowed the team to identify and set goals for growing their quality offering and showed me where I could provide more quality coaching into these teams.
