Supporting modern software testers as they embrace whole-team ownership of quality

As teams embrace whole-team ownership of quality, the role of dedicated testers is evolving—or disappearing altogether. At the same time, the concept of a "quality engineer" (QE) is growing as more organizations and practitioners embrace that job title. Alessandra Moreira summed it up recently in a blog post: "Organizations are beginning to recognize that delivering quality software goes beyond tools and is about creating a culture of quality that permeates all engineering teams."

What does this shift mean for individuals and their careers? Can testing specialists who do only human-centric testing - perhaps calling themselves "manual testers" - become quality engineers? In this interactive workshop, participants will work together to identify what is needed to grow into a QE role.

Participants will dive into the practicalities of adopting tools, fostering collaboration across roles, and ensuring that quality remains a priority in a context without siloed testing experts. They will also discuss the human side of this shift. How can organizations support testers with a range of skills, for example, those not comfortable coding on their own?

Jen and Lisa will gather all the ideas generated during the workshop, and share them with the community via a blog post.
