Use upward comparison to level up your career and personal lives

Everyone who has told you not to compare yourself to others is wrong. Comparison saved my life and it could improve yours if you let it.

Everyone who has told you not to compare yourself to others is wrong. Comparison saved my life and it could improve yours if you let it. We are failing people by not teaching them the positive side of comparison and the useful effects of knowledge, taking what you see and using it as motivation. In fact, research has found that upward comparison, i.e., comparing yourself to other people who you perceive to be “better than you are,” actually helps motivate you to achieve similar success. Being able to understand upward comparison and use it as a strength, is a tool that is not only backed by research but could help to save a lot of lives. Now, how this relevant to testing? As testers, we constantly keep comparing ourselves with other thought leaders, overachievers, and influencers around us. In that process, we quite often end up getting stressed, depressed and anxious because we do not know how to use comparison to fuel our growth. In this talk, I will teach you the 3-R approach- Recognize, Research, and Replace. Using this strategy, people can use comparison to set benchmarks and help them come up with an action plan to accomplish their goals. It will help them view comparison through a positive lens. As a result, you will gain more focus and motivation to level up in your personal life and career. Following this approach, I was able to transform my life from an entry-level software testing into a leader. If an average guy like me can do it so can YOU!. This talk will show you how.
