I started my career in tech in support teams. A place where the pressure can be high and where the effective asking and answering of questions is critical to helping resolve the customer’s problem. Sound familiar?
In testing, we often also need to be the question askers, analysers, and answerers. Question asking skills, or a lack thereof, can have a massive impact on the quality of a product.
They also affect our interpersonal relationships, and can potentially even shape our careers. It can take skill to ask the right questions, of the right people, in the right way, at the right time. I’ll talk about some occasions during my career where questions were asked, where they were not, and what happened. I’ll explore ways we can improve our question asking skills, as well as some of my favourite questions I use in my testing role.
